That's... A pretty stupid reading of it. He stole their stuff because that's what he thought it was about because he literally did not understand Christmas until the Whos came out and started celebrating regardless. Then he figured out what it was because of this and SUDDENLY, HE WAS CHANGED!!!!!

I think you see why this might bother some people. IT's that smarmy, holier-than-thou, "IF YOU DON'T CELEBRATE CHRISTMAS LIKE THIS THEN YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG!!!!" thing that is tossed around every year because ~lol War on Christmas~.

You're being very cynical.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-20 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Or you're to optimistic.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-21 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
no, it's an accurate reading of the moral of the story

(Anonymous) 2014-12-21 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
And the accurate reading of Scrooge is "this rich man who worked hard should have to give up his wealth for the moral good of others or he's EVIL and DOOMED TO HELL."

Doesn't make it a good story or a good reading.

On the other hand, I guess you could just be someone who really likes things and money and is upset about it.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-21 06:27 am (UTC)(link)
I am thinking that is it. Or they are being deliberately obtuse, in order to better be the Grinch of these threads?

Uh. That wasn't really the point of the story. It wasn't that he should give up what he worked hard for, it was that he cared about acquiring and keeping wealth so much that he become a miser who thought nothing of the feelings or lives of other people.

fingalsanteater, stop telling ayrt that they're doing it wrong. You're so smarmy and holier-than-thou.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-21 10:37 am (UTC)(link)
Hi ayrt

(Anonymous) 2014-12-21 05:37 pm (UTC)(link)
...why would I be ayrt when I'm making fun of ayrt?

(Anonymous) 2014-12-21 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
It's not a stupid reading at all. You're just looking really hard for a reason to be upset about a movie that dares to say "people are more important than things."

And if you really want to keep ranting pointlessly, you'd be better off calling it pinko Commie propaganda than likening it to the War on Christmas BS.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-21 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
Oh boo hoo, did someone insult your favorite childhood movie? Get over it, it wasn't even "people are more important than things."

The Grinch is the protag, and it's all about him learning ~the real meaning of Christmas~ because obviously there's only allowed to be ONE MEANING. So some people are materialistic about it. So what? Isn't that their choice??? The Grinch hated it because it was noisy and he didn't understand it.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-21 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
Ooooh, it's you. Hi, there. I guess your anger makes sense now, since it's all manufactured.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-21 05:49 am (UTC)(link)
yawn @ your trolling
