If English isn't their native language, I cut them some slack. Translations aren't precise and I don't expect them to buy the English versions of the books to be honest.

Yes, and I know for a fact the translations did use their own lingo - hell, they even changed some names. "Hermione" was called "Hermelien" here.

Yep, I've picked up the French version of the first one, and Snape is "Rogue," Hogwarts is "Poudlard," etc etc.

Hermione was Hermine here. And in the first edition on the first book they even translated Sirius' last name into my language, so I never had the "Ooooooooh!" moment lots of other had when they started reading book 3 until afterwards.
