Well yeah I too felt like in a way Buffy/Angel was supposed to be endgame or like, Buffy was never supposed to love anyone as much as she loved Angel, but I'm glad both series kind of ended on their own without getting back into that (I know the comics revisited it a bit but I have no idea what is going on in the comics now and don't really want to.)

But even without the conclusive end, Angel having his own show just felt like it saved Buffy from turning into a complete romance cliche (not that Buffy would have to go in that direction, but even good writers can't always resist it.) It was really refreshing and nice to see them as individual characters.

"omg, I love you so much but we can't be together." It crops up in some many shows, probably as a way of building angst and romantic tension, but it drives me batty. I always scream at the TV, "if you can't be together, then DON'T."

ME TOO. Especially because writers tend to come up with all sorts of ridiculous ways for the couple to not be together, and the longer it goes on the more incompatible the pair ends up being. I never find it romantic and by the time those sorts finally get together (if they do) I'm pretty much bored of the characters along with their "romance."
