Is this about the 'Skye and her father' secret? I think the OP did that by accident, but then someone reacted to the protests by commenting with a string of spoilers, and that was deliberate and, imo, mean-spirited.

Yes - the OP had no ill intentions, but the spoiler trolls were just assholes.

It's not just that. This topic came up last night between me and the same anon. I'm pretty sure this is also them and apparently they are thinking about this a lot.

/late to the party, just got back from work

For the record, I'm a different anon, but the conservations between you and the other anon kinda inspired it. Figured it'd be better to have a separate thread for it without the conflict between you and that other anon mentioned, because it's something I legitimately do not get.

I think it's too bad that you immediately jump to "entitlement" when someone says they don't like spoilers rather than thinking that maybe they just enjoy media differently from you. Given that there is a very large group of people that dislikes being spoiled, it's really common, and it's considered courteous to not do it if you can help it, PLUS the amount of effort it takes is very close to zero, this isn't really the same thing as a small group of special snowflakes demanding something unusual or hard.

It's ok for you to not understand why people hate spoilers. But it's dumb for you to go around calling them entitled just because they have a mindset that you don't share.

You jump to discourtesy awful quick too. No one is obligated, in any way whatsover, to have to censor themselves on your behalf. I find your demand to do so to be the discourteous position. You want to not know things, and that is fine. I personally have only ever been "spoiled" once, and that was only because of the half assed way someone tried to dance around the spoiler and left it seeming very different from what it was, if they'd just come out and given the facts I'd have been fine. However it is on me, if I seek to avoid something, to change my behaviour so I do not get spoiled. I have to stay out of fandom spaces. I have to avoid conversations. I have to make the effort, and not everyone else. The same applies for you. You want to carry on as normal, but have the rest of the world change. That is entitlement, and getting upset and accusatory when it doesn't happen is discourteous.

This would make a lot more sense if a) it was just me and not a lot of other people who wanted this and b) it required a great deal of effort to post spoiler warnings. But neither of those things are true.

As it is, no, I don't think people should be obligated to avoid general fandom spaces in order to avoid spoilers for something that was recently released. I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on that. There are comms specifically for various shows/games/etc. where people can go to discuss new stuff. You can also start a thread that says SPOILERS at the top. You can post a secret marked spoilers. You can post on a tumblr tag with spoilers. There are lots of ways to discuss new content. This is not new.

Also, I really don't think you're using the word "censoring" incorrectly and honestly I think it diminishes the value of the word to use it that way.
