If you watch for the koasami - maybe you'll be disappointed as it's pretty subtle, and could be seen as friendship until the very end.

That being said, it's a really great series, with very nuanced villains, that deals with very mature things for a youth series. And it's much more bite-sized than Breaking Bad.

Pffft. As a person who enjoys femslash I have made a career out of shipping things that can be seen as friendship. Or rivalry. Because that's what you have to work with in this stupid stupid society, damn it.

If you like a f/f friendship that has very subtle subtext, I have good news for you...

Actually, it can be seen as friendship for the entire show. It's only the creator's confirmation that makes it canon.

It can be, though the end scene was a heavy implication.

But, I sort of like that.

Little kids who don't see the subtext can just see it as Korra choosing to go see the spirit world with her best friend over romance(which is an awesome message to little girls, too) while people who know Word of God or wanted to see the ship all along, can see it that way.

Well technically anything is only canon because of creator confirmation.

But they said they included a lot of the subtext in the last two seasons purposefully, and honestly, if you watch that last bit and say "gee, nothing romantic there at all!" then you're missing something major. They couldn't make it as overt as it should have been which is sad but I think they made it pretty clear.

You say subtext, but fans of say, Destiel, can pull a lot of "subtext" for their pairing too. Legend of Korra just isn't well-written enough for me to believe any of the subtext people are seeing was intentional.

I don't mind the pairing (well, now I don't) but everyone is really giving the showrunners too much credit.

Do Dean and Castiel hold hands and stare into each others' eyes? Do they talk about going on a vacation together with romantic music playing? Some of the rest could be played off, but that ending scene...

brainwashed Castiel ~couldn't kill Dean~ when he was ordered to because of their bond, tons of "I can't go without you!" scenes, "I've got your back forever" scenes, etc.
I'm not saying it's canon, 'cause it isn't, but some of that subtext is impressive.

Well, fair enough. I'll defer to you on that since I've never watched any SPN.

Standing close, facing each other and holding hands while gazing into each other's eyes isn't that platonic though. Who actually does that with their friends?
I do wish they had at least said "I love you", or something like that to each other, but not as platonic as lots of people like to say it was.

tbh, my culture is kind of touchy-feely and things like holding hands and looking into each others eyes are things we will do in dramatic moments, in a completely platonic manner. Excessive hugging, too.
Which you could argue is good for Korrasami, because most East Asian cultures aren't nearly that tactile, so it can be seen as a big thing for them. Though not sure Bryke thought that far.

Same with Korra and mako after the fuck up of season 2 - all the interactions are easily interpreted as being friends and haha turns out they just are. Refreshing to have a girl boy friendship. Doesn't happen very often.

This.

Yeah, as much as I ship Makorra I'm pretty happy to have that kind of friendship be the endgame for once rather than the starting point.
