My method involves telling everyone I have plans then hiding in a park or similarity minded friends house. *grabs presents and runs*

That is an excellent plan.

For myself, everyone knows I don't do the holidays anymore (I did the whole Winter Solstice whatever for a few years, but eeeeeehhhh then the novelty wore off) so everyone pretty much leaves me alone now. Plus, the family is scattered all over everywhere, and with both patriarch and matriarch gone, now, there's no more huge so-many-people-we-need-two-sittings family dinners anymore. (Which is good and bad, in its own way.)

Now that I'm not living anywhere even remotely near an urban centre, I can't even do the lunch-and-a-movie thing I did sometimes (when I was living in a respectably-sized city). I'm not even sure what's opening tomorrow. Regardless, it's deffo not gonna be opening HERE. Everything is now closed till Friday.

Currently doing my toe nails and mooching off free wifi. Kind of surprised some places are open consider it's Christmas Day but yay for me!

Might go see if the zoo is doing a discount, it appears to be open.


My family is all in different states but I have housemates and friends who are concerned in lonely when...I like some parts in small doses but I also just...not interested in celebrating.

I'm all for the day off work or penalty rates tho.

If you're anywhere near an urban centre, there's usually lots open. I, however, live nowhere even remotely close to an urban centre, and the nearest town is going to be an insane madhouse on Boxing Day.

Smack bang in the middle of a city - but o yeah I remember living rural and I found it so much harder to get out of celebrations back then. But easier if living on own?

I'm watching some backpackers setting up a stall. Idk if it's music or stuff to buy but ppl watching is interesting.

totally with you. assuming I do get to go to my family's thing tomorrow, I plan on telling them no, seriously, I do not celebrate christmas and from henceforth there will be no gifts. And I will not accept any.

but weather's kind of acting up so I may not have to go, yay!

OP:

In some families, that's the only time everyone has time off from work/can get together/is willing to get together. I also don't celebrate Christmas (I did for some years, but pretty much gave it up altogether when both of my grandparents died within a couple years of each other), but I still go to family functions and visiting over the holidays/etc.

Not "the holidays" per se, but I don't want to go see my family, and moreover my siblings' significant (b)others. Too crowded, too noisy, I feel I don't belong in any human group, not even my own family, and I don't even like festive food nor getting presents. I'm the ultimate party pooper!
