How do you deal with being a part of a small, inactive, or non-existent pairing or fandom?

Basically, I just play out scenarios in my head. It's fun enough, but I do wish I could read fic or RP it or something...so I tend to try to get my friends into it, haha. It doesn't often work, but when it does, it's great!

Get a little miffed as even in big fandoms I seem to go for rare pairings. :\ (Or at least ones that don't have a lot of fan work.)
