How come this 'you' is in every fandom you write for? Is it a plural 'you' meaning fic readers in general?

(Anonymous) 2014-12-26 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
Or OP could only be in (or write for) one fandom.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-26 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
Or maybe they think of 'you' regardless of fandom, sort of like a muse.

[personal profile] solticisekf 2014-12-26 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
Now that's imaginative and artsy. oO

(Anonymous) 2014-12-26 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
Why do you think that?

[personal profile] solticisekf 2014-12-26 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe because I was never in only one fandom so I wonder how it works, the thing that the OP does.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-26 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
Eh. I guess it's good that you have a reason to write fanfic, but you might want to find a better one. People are pretty flighty, especially in fandom.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-26 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
I can relate. In the past, I've written tons of fic for an audience of one. Some of it would later get posted publicly and got generally good reaction, but the intended audience was my BFF.
Now, we're in different fandoms and my "one" is usually a specific feedbacker/commenter who I know enjoys whatever style of story I happen to be writing at the time. That person, unlike my BFF, has no idea that I'm writing for them.
The payoff for me is getting their happy, unwitting response.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-26 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
This kind of thing can backfire so badly. Like when you want to try something a little different, and your "you" kicks up a fuss about it not being 100% what they want to read. It's fine to write fics to try to make someone happy, but...don't put all your eggs in that one basket, OP, and don't let one person determine whether or not what you're writing is worthwhile.

(I'm probably projecting a lot onto this secret, but it was a very painful lesson to learn. :( )

nayrt

Not to mention that when my "you" went off to new fandoms, I was left with the sad realization that literally no one else in my tiny fandom shared what I loved.

I don't know who your "you" is, OP, but I hope (depending on your dialect) it's actually a "you-all" or "youse".

(Anonymous) 2014-12-26 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
That happened to me, the "you" also turned into an asshole and who kept dropping RP threads with me too. I had no choice but to look for another fandom.

I did this for several years. It didn't end terribly well.

Our friendship ran into troubles, and the multi-part epic fic I was in the middle of writing, the most popular I'd ever done, was too painful to go back to for quite a while. Eventually I did finish the fic, but lost the ending due to technology fail.

I think the archive my fic was hosted on deleted it in the end due to long-term unfinished status. I was glad to be honest.

I hope your friendship/romance goes a lot better than mine did, and you write lots of nice fics for your muse.

Heh, well. On the opposing end of the people who've had bad experiences with this, I wrote one of my online friends fic for her birthday last year and then dedicated several more fics to her over the next few months. She did the same for me and we've been dating for nine months now. So, sometimes that does work out! Best of luck, OP.

That's really sweet to hear.
