Applying to two jobs at one company

(Anonymous) 2014-12-26 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
A company currently has two openings I am qualified for. Is it weird to apply to both of them? The email address to send applications to is a general HR address, so they would get two fairly similar cover letters and the same resume from me, within a short period of time. Is this something that is frowned upon or anything?

Last time I asked this question I was told by people with much more experience in these matters than me that it was perfectly fine for the entry level jobs I was applying for. But it may be different for more specialized jobs, plus I wasn't hired for either of those jobs so you'll probably want to take this with a grain of salt.

You might not have to. If the jobs very similar, like the same general action different purpose, they might consider you for the other one based on your application or an interview. This happened to me once when I applied for a job at a place where they were expanding. I applied for the new opening on the new contract, but when I went to the interview for it they ended up hiring me for a yet-unadvertised opening at the old contract (caused by some other employees going to that new one) because they thought my demeanor was better suited for that. Just make sure you have a killer resume and try not to stress too much about the interview.

Absolutely not. You're showing confidence in your ability to do both jobs, that's not something you should have qualms about. And you're increasing your chances of a better position. Git it!
