Shameless - US - anyone watching?
I just mainlined all four seasons of this show and while i enjoyed it for a lot of reasons.... I really felt the writers dropped the ball with Fiona. It was like they had given her too much 'good luck' or something and so had to make her behave like an utter idiot in order to twist the plot up and keep the 'poor people porn' happening.
Which is one of the reasons i'm kind of off put by it, because it really *is* 'poor people porn' sometimes.
It was nice that they finally eased up and gave us one or two short m/m sex scenes that were as revealing as the m/f ones, but they could do better.
All in all - i look forward to season five, i just hope they don't forget the growth that *all* the characters have gone through. (And, omg - Joan Cusak. She is so fucking awesome.)

I know how you feel about Fiona, but the thing is that us poor people tend to sometimes fuck up for ourselves when things are going bad, so it happens. What Fiona did wasn't excusable, but it was understandable. Then again, I would have understood it more if it was Lip, not Fiona who fucked up that badly, because Fiona should have known better, but something you just fuck up.
It might be "poor people porn" but it is surprisingly realistic poor people porn!

It is and it isn't. Anybody with a mom and dad like that would *never* be so stupid to leave *all their money* in a Crisco can in the *kitchen*. Especially because Monica was cooking like a fiend. Who does that? And leaving every light in the house on - nope. Nobody whose had to make deals with the electric company (so fun) or had their power shut off (even more fun!) does that. You get Nazi on that shite.
And yes, people fuck up. Being under all that stress, all the time, makes you do dumb-ass things, like snort coke with your underage siblings right there. But...also, not so much, because *really*? She showed herself to be so much smarter than that. I dunno. That just struck me as so very, very wrong. I'd have believed her taking the coke and sticking it somewhere to use for a little private party/little perk-up for going out one night with V and dance, and Liam finding it or even Carl and wanting to give it a try. But how it was handled...eh.
I, too, am surprised that Lip did not do something irredeemably stupid, but i think the challenge to his oh-so-quick brain of actual smart people pushing him is *fun* for him, even as he struggles with family stuff. He's never actually had to *work* at school, so - yeah.
I'm also a bit leery of Frank and his new liver. I don't actually think a guy like him, 'clean' for what, a couple months? would *ever* get a new liver, but maybe the standards are a bit lower than i imagine, i dunno.
I like that Mickey finally stood up to his dad, but i *love* that Svetlana stood up to Mickey. Her speech about 'choice' was awesome. I just wish Mandy could find the same backbone.
I was surprised that Molly, the half-sister, was only around for one episode or two. Fanfic made me think she was a regular.

I don't think about the light thing, as electricity is relatively cheap in Norway (and the state will help you pay that bill if you can't afford it), but I think that is more down to a stylistic choice over a "real" one, but you are correct.
I was just mostly talking about the drugs thing, but I see your side too, it would have been more realistic if Carl or Liam found it in a box and took it, not out in the open.
Lip is me, we are just a bit more lucky than others, so even when we fuck up we somehow manage to get through it relatively well, but I was suprised he didn't get kicked out of school tbh. But then again I am happy he is still getting an education, and as you say it is fun for him, he gets challenged.
The liver thing was just weird, I dunno? I pout it down to television logic and leaving it at that I think.
Mickey is my fav character ever, and I just love how he stood up to his dad, and how happy he was getting beaten. Yeah Svetlana is pretty cool. And how Ian was handled in the end was interesting, and I saw so many people ddisagreeingwith how the family and Mickey handled it, but as someone who have been in pretty much exactly the same situation, it was realistic, not smart or the best solution, but realistic.
Oh Molly, I had almost forgotten about her, and yeah fanfics for Shameless US is a minefield, if you know any good ones please tell me!
It is! Shameless US is my all time favorite show, and it is my baby and I love it! But I am not above criticising it at all! Or someone disagreeing with me for that matter. I do enjoy discussing it tho.

And really - poor people *use banks*. I'd for sure be putting 8,000 bucks or whatever it was in the fucking *bank*. I know it's tv and all, 'tv logic' like you say, but come *on*.
And electricity in the US - especially in older, poorly insulated homes with probably ancient and inefficient furnaces can be *insane*. We had super-cold weather where i live last year and our electric bill once month was over six hundred dollars. So we keep the thermostat *way* down and dress in layers.
I was surprised, too, about not being kicked out, but then again, if you manage to get a couple tenured professors on your side, things can work out. But, on the *other*, other hand, heh, a lot of US universities/colleges can be really super 'zero tolerance' to a ridiculous degree, so - like the liver, we shall say 'tv logic/plot device!!' and handwave.
Lip, though, makes me proud. He stopped being a punk and stepped up, and that's good.
Mickey is awesome. I feel for the poor guy. His awful, horrible father and probably horrible extended family and the need to be a 'hard man' at all times.... How exhausting. When he finally allows himself to kiss Ian...man. :)
I was a little pissed at them not arguing more with Mickey. Fiona and Lip *know* that 'helping' Ian at home isn't exactly the best way. They *know* that if Monica were to be hospitalized for a few months, stabilized on meds, it would be 100 times better than her being at home in the 'tender care' of Frank. Yes, he means well, but it's not *sensible*.
But it's also very understandable. I just hope Ian doesn't get as bad as Monica, and do what she did. Ack!
I am currently only reading one Shameless author (who i subscribed to for another fandom, i think) and they're okay, but now that i've seen all four seasons, i'm going to be searching out other authors. This particular writer has everybody *whispering* all the time, it's really weird.
If i find any really fic, i'll do my best to rec it here.
And, apparently, it'll be back in January for season five, so yay!

I just put that down to not understanding American banks. As having a savings account or a Visa card is something everyone (including children) can have in Norway. But apparently it is TV logic?
Woah? For a month? Seriously? How? Sorry I pay like 300 dollars for the three months during the coldest of winter, and that is in a hella old house in a hella cold part of Norway. And we use electricity for everything...

who I didn't notice had an actress change...I think it comes down to Fiona and Lip also not really trusting Shrinks, as is pretty common. But on the other hand it is their brother and that they didn't argue more was surprising.
I hope they will handle Ian's illness realistically and it will be interesting to see what they do with it.
Yeah it is difficult finding good fanfics. If you are interested I might be able to find some Ian/Mickey ones that are pretty good.
Yup! Shameless is back in January and I have been looking forward to it since it ended last season! I both love and hate their short seasons... Which reminds me, "The Big Shameless US Rewatch" will have to happen in the near future so I will catch up again. Haven't really watched an episode after the last season ended. I made a rookie mistake and looked at the Tumblr. tag, which is filled with stupidity.
Also sorry it took a while to reply, I am at my grandparents house so I don't really spend much time on the computer.

I did *not* realize they'd switched up Mandy. I looked at pictures of both actors in 'real life' and they look amazingly similar, even without the Mandy hair and makeup. Crazy.
Let's see.... Yes, TV logic. One paycheck - even only have of one paycheck - is plenty to open a bank account, and if you have ID, that's all you need. I 'have' to keep five dollars in the 'savings' part of my bank account - that's it. It's a credit union, but still - you can always find a bank with a very low minimum monthly amount and no fees, and you can pay your stuff online, then, instead of having to physically run all over town and stand in line, which is awesome. Put money in your account Saturday, pay your bill Saturday when the actually office is closed. You can still have poor people porn with banks! Heh.

Yeah, that's for one month. I live in Missouri, which is - much to my dismay - a coal state, and so our electric is really high. Plus, my house is old and needs better insulation. I'm really hoping the next bill we get (any day now) won't be huge, since it's been cold enough to have the heat on quite a bit.
I hope they do right by Ian's illness, as well. And i get not trusting shrinks/doctors/whatever, but some things simply do *not* get better by themselves and/or with the application of *someone else's* medication. That could actually make Ian worse. Even Monica admitted she needed to be hospitalized, and would have stayed there if not for idiot Frank and his selfish crap.
I just finished watching, since I downloaded everything and binge-watched, heh. The (rather lame) fic i'd been reading made me want to see it all. Watching an ep at a time will be torture!
Now i'm trying to find a decent Shameless Tumblr or two to follow - i like having more pretty pictures on my dash. :) I just don't want ones that are crazy-posting daily, or post a ton of other stuff I don't care about. (Picks through the minefield.)
