Some of that comes from the way slash fandom evolved.

I think Shatner and Nimoy have been mostly OK with K/S, from what I have seen. I'm not sure what other creators have been supportive of it.

But I kind of think the sheer amount of fan slashing out there, for what many creators see as an ancillary fandom (girls reading "boy comics," etc.) makes it harder to take any of it seriously. It's usually fan-driven and tacky; this goes for most femslash, too.
