You are really starting to piss me off. You know what? I don't care how badly written it is. I really don't. I happen to like it but I don't care if it's bad or not. Because an American children's cartoon has a same sex relationship in it and went as far with it as they were allowed. This is a big deal for me and a lot of other people. It cheered up my girlfriend when she was upset again by thinking about how it's not safe to tell her parents about me yet because she can't be sure how they'll react. And you're just so determined to piss all over that.

Allowed? No they didn't, it's just badly written.

Okay, so ignore me.

What do you mean they didn't? And what does that have to do with whether or not it's written well? Whether they wrote it and whether they wrote it well or two completely separate things.

Byrke are bad at writing relationships. Look at the whole Makorra fiasco, look at how Bolin/Eska came to be. The only reason the couples in ATLA worked were because Bryke were given a team of competent writers and a producer(?) who knew what they were doing. And you can say they were being subtle, but being subtle is not what Bryke do. They have to hit you in the head with it. Plus they also mentioned back when they really wanted Makorra endgame was that Mako and Korra were made for each other (I'm just paraphrasing badly here).

Because if you're wanting this for representations sake, then grabbing at the nearest thing with a gay couple, if it's badly written, is not helping you. Thinking it's cute because characters you like are a couple and admitting it's badly written, is one thing, but not only did this season premiere exclusively on the Internet and aired on a channel you have to pay extra for (Nicktoons), but the fact it's contrived just makes it look like they stuck the only two girls together because girls can't just be friends and they had little to no build up to them being interested in each other. The standards and practices thing is just an excuse (I didn't read the posts Bryke posted in their entirety, so I'm not sure if it was them who mentioned it).

Thank you for explaining your opinion instead of acting like the details are self-evident because it's The Truth.

I agree that subtlety is not Bryke's strong point but you can't judge hetero relationships and same sex relationships the same way because of the history of censorship.

I disagree that it "looks like they stuck the only two girls together because girls can't just be friends". That just isn't a thing that society says and I don't know where you're getting it from. It's men and women that tv acts like can't only be friends. Meanwhile many f/f couples are assumed to just be friends in real life.

And I still say that I don't care if it's badly written or not. It has to be accepted enough to exist in large amounts before it will be likely to get any that's really good. I'll take any step in that direction, no matter how small.

I don't know why it's so important to you to prove that it's badly written that you have to reply to every single thread that mentions the Korra ending and go on and on about it.

I started that way because for some reason I thought people would remember me going off before. But I forget that this is the Internet and not everyone sees everything.

That's true, but since I saw no evidence for it, it came off as pandering, because I saw every interaction with them as platonic. My thinking was, they could have showed anything to help prove the ship, even if they snuck it in the background because I assumed the writers they actually had might have been smart enough to do it, but Bryke might not have told them or they had no one who knew what they were doing to help. But like I said, Bryke can't into subtlety. I assumed it would be easier to get away with because of the audience and where it premiered.

I haven't seen it in the media, but I see it with shipping.

Well, see, I think it's sad that people will just settle for things sometimes instead of demanding answers. In this case, if I wasn't a wuss with Bryke knowing who I am, I would be demanding why they didn't write it better and then pointing out what they could have done to make it more obvious since the whole showing thing with media.

It's because people are settling for that crap ending. Yes be happy your ship happened, but at least acknowledge that yes, Bryke could have done way better instead of just suddenly shoving them together because for those of us who aren't shipping them (and in a lot of cases, people who were shipping them) did not see it coming.

At this point, while I hate Korrasami, if they had included more development of it, I would accept it, I would still hate, but begrudgingly accept that yes, it's canon.

"Yes be happy your ship happened, but at least acknowledge that yes, Bryke could have done way better"

Someone upthread said exactly that, and you still kept shitting on them.

So now you're not just a hypocrite and a child, you're also a liar.

Of course it could have been better.

I think you were wrong to assume it would be easier to show a same sex relationship because of the audience and where it premiered. A lot of people get the wrong idea about how acceptable these things are these days because they tend to hang out in rather progressive spaces. I'm stuck dealing with too many people who think that there's already been too much gay propaganda over that last several years for me to take anything like this for granted.

And as for the attitudes that you see in shipping, you have to remember that shippers make up a minority of the audience of any show which is mostly made up of casual viewers, even though shippers are so vocal on the internet.

While true, I think in this case just showing Korra and Asami as better friends might have worked (like how in the end of the third season Asami was treating Korra, simple showing she was there and talking to her) since they did only interact like 3/4 times this season.

I know, they are so prevalent on Tumblr though.
