I'm one of the people who doesn't like gamer culture but I really strongly believe that doesn't mean that there's anything wrong within it. So whatever may be the case about gamer culture I don't think that has to be an attack on you.

That said it's probably a good idea to be reflective about yourself and the culture more broadly and try to self-examine for flaws. Because again I do think there are problems in the culture.

nayrt

This is pretty stupid. "Gaming culture", what the heck does that even mean? Fourteen year olds on video game message boards? Is there a knitting culture, or a pilates culture, or a baking culture?

Sure, we can talk about attitudes within mainstream gaming media but frankly that doesn't represent a "culture", nor remotely represent gamers as a whole.

I can't speak for baking or pilates from personal experience, but there sure as fuck is a knitting culture, and it definitely has its share of toxic, petty drama.

Any hobby tends to have a culture that grows from its die-hard practitioners that may or may not be remotely relevant to people who have a casual interest.

Yes, anon, there's a knitting culture. And a pilates culture. And a baking culture. Every social hobby has a culture. And no, not everyone who has that hobby is part of the culture or adheres to its norms, but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
