Um, 24, I think the bigger problem is that you're looking at things through too narrow a perspective and projecting your own gender stereotypes/expectations (strong and independent = "mannish") onto characters and other fans.

I don't do, and have not seen any other feminist fans, do what you're saying. I have, however, seen a lot of misognists like you who try to turn things around and place the blame on those who like characters that don't fit into your own preferred gender stereotype.

Strong and independent /= unfeminine.

...HOW did you get "misogyny" from that secret? I believe the OP was simply defending traditional feminine qualities, not saying ALL STRONG WOMEN SUCK GIRLS SHOULD BE LADYLIKE AND BAKE COOKIES AND SEW LACY PILLOWS!!. There's a difference.

But, that's just my take. *shrugs*

I thought they were saying they do like characters like that but get tired of them being the only acceptable ones. And people saying that anything that's traditionally seen as feminine/girly must automatically suck.

But yeah, I'm biased on this one. (I don't know exactly why, I'm not exactly girly in real life at all.)

I'm a bitch, I'm a lover, I'm a child, I'm a mother.... *ahem*

What can I say, it's my Faye song, and a kind person icon'd it for me.

...No, no, I don't think that's right. I mean, the OP didn't say sie wanted all girls to act like girly girls, sie said sie didn't like how 'feminists' make it out like all girls have to be strong, not traditionally feminine women.

24 OP here.

Um, LOL at completely missing the point me?

Technically speaking, I have no problems with strong women characters. But what am I trying to say is that I'm sick of having other so-called "feminists" saying that only women who display archetypically mannish behavior are strong, therefore women who don't do so are immediately and automatically "weak" and "horrible". A good example is how, in Bleach fandom, the tomboyish and assertive Rukia Kuchiki is touted by some of her fans as wonderful and ultrafeministic and well-developed... but then these same fangirls turn and bash the hell out of the more traditionally feminine Orihime Inoue purely on the grounds of her being gentle, tender and sensitive.

These fans aren't true feminists. These fans give all feminists in fandom a bad rep. These are the ones that right now make me groan whenever the "strong femenine characters" topic. A good example of these fake feminists (and the reaosn why I used an Integra picture) is here: http://community.livejournal.com/rabidfanssuck/40038.html

Therefore, no, I'm NOT a misogynist. You lose. Sorry? :P

I think a lot of the hate for those types of characters isn't because they're weak - it's because they're used and common. While they're often done well, they're more often rather flat. :/ Once you see the same thing over and over again, you tend to get sick of it, especially if it has gender-sensitive issues attached.
