Even if he fell in love with someone else how can he suddenly forget that he made a promise to her mother to always bring her home? In so many other episodes he mentions this and shows remorse. I was always touched by those scenes, but now they seem cheap and meaningless.
So many people demand apology for Martha and the way he treated her, did anyone ever complain about the Doctor's treatment of Rose and Mickey in TGITFP?

What I hated was that he abandoned her, left her to die, left her to the TARDIS with no way home again.
But he didn't do it because he fell in love with Reinette (or at least, not just because). He did it because a) if he didn't, an innocent woman was going to die, and we know how he is about things like that, and b) if she died at that time, that way, time would be completely screwed with. Especially now that he's the last Time Lord, he takes keeping time from being screwed with really, really seriously. He practically treats it like a penance for the Time War.
And I don't believe that he stranded them there forever. Nine had an emergency protocol in case things went seriously sideways, and I don't see why Ten wouldn't have the same thing. Even if he didn't, he's going to live a long, long time, and he knows where he's been. He's certainly not above stealing a previous him's TARDIS to get back.
Sorry if this is TLDR:) I just see TGITFP as catching the Doctor between a rock and a hard place.
