Sorry for not commenting on the secret, but I can't believe I'm seeing a FMoS secret.

Now I'm in nostalgia mode, so I think I'll go to listen to Eternal Snow.

Isn't that the manga were a seven year old commits suicide by train to make his mother happy? That always struck me as super weird, even for Anime standards

No, it's about a girl who wants to become a singer but has an illness in her throat and she gets her dreams fulfilled through two magical companions.

No, it is the same manga. Izumi jumped in front of a train when he was six to make his mother smile.

I only watched the anime. I hear the manga's way more fucked up. (The rabbit-ears girl actually tries to kill the main character at one point!)

Oh, did they cut that out of the anime? I remember being really put off by it.

Yes, they did, thankfully.

From what I can tell from Wikipedia, the anime cuts out a lot of stuff. None of the shinigami except for the cat-eared boy have their backstory explained, the whole subplot between rabbit-ears and Grandma is gone, and the rival reapers have their plot arc greatly simplified.

(I'm not so good with names.)

I'm 100% with you, OP.

But as you said, it's so hard to describe it without making it seem over-the-top. Then people see the cutesy designs, and the death warrant is signed. *sigh*

Though in my case, it's not remission, it's more like, most days I'm Mitsuki, but every once in a while, I have a day when I'm Fullmoon, and it's glorious.

Then my condition reasserts itself.

But at least I have those Fullmoon days, rare as they are. :)

I never watched the show but I loved the manga. I should reread it. A lead character with an illness would probably be more meaningful to me these days too even though my problems are different.

This also reminds me that this was the series that taught me that I don't react to spoilers the way other people do. My friend was talking to our other friend about it and mentioned one of the biggest twists, not realizing that I hadn't gotten to that part yet. And my reaction was, "Oh. Interesting. I'll have to see how that works when I get there." And telling her to stop beating herself up.

It's been years since I read the manga, but I remember wanting to cry so much. You keep singing, Mitsuki. You sing as much as your little heart desires.

Yeah, a lot of people over-react when it comes to spoilers.

I remember there being a lot of tragedy in the manga (I also remember reading that sucker straight from Ribon and helping with the translations). The backstories of the shinigami really get to you. It drives home that yeah, they may have the cute animal aspects and such, but the afterlife isn't all skittles and how they got there is really twisted in a lot of ways. Jonathan, woo-boy, though.

I really liked the hope aspect of it, thought. The follow your dreams, no matter the pain, what you really love, etc. It's still one of my favorite manga.
