How many friends do you have--could you PM them all individually to tell them about the switchover? One of my tumblr friends had to do that, and I don't think it offended anybody.

I think this might be what I do. At least for my really close friends. I don't mind losing the follower count or acquaintances on my current account so that's not a big issue. I know at least I can trust the people on my smaller LJ list since nothing I've posted privately there has been dredged up against me since I excised the creepers.

IATWC. Maybe don't add everyone, but the people who you care about keeping. Oh, and don't give away too much personal information for a while? (If you even did that with your last tumblr. You don't want them connecting you through that.)
