Yes, but musicians aren't really expected to improvise a lot that I've seen. It's not like she's a professional comedian or something; as long as she makes music and it sells, her job is covered.

But she's not just a musician, she's specifically a rapper. And rappers really are expected to be able to improvise. It's kind of a thing.

I mean that's really the whole point of the joke. It's not that Iggy can't freestyle and that's funny. It's that Iggy is a rapper who can't freestyle.

There's also probably a whole nother layer for the joke to do with, I guess, cultural appropriation and being an insider/outsider in the rap community but you don't even need that

This, pretty much.

Many underground rappers and rappers that eventually make it usually start out freestyling/ battling freestyle in night clubs. That's what you do, and the better at it you are, the more clever your rhymes and or insults, and what you have to say, the more love you get. Also, flow is incredibly important.

I agree. If she were, say, a country musician then it would be ridiculous to expect her to automatically be decent at freestyling but it kind of comes with the territory if you claim to be a rapper.

That...doesn't make it any better, but it does explain, probably, why I don't really like rap.
