I have no beef with people who are religious (heck, fundamentalist is a word you could use to describe most of my extended family), but I find it more disrespectful to use the whole capitalization thing for something I've stated before I don't believe in.

I've been burned on that one before too. I mean, I'm outright criticizing a sermon here (because it's inherently wrong and doesn't follow the laws of reality, much like the ending to TLoU). I don't think I'm going to get away with not offending people on this one.

Obviously there's no perfect thing but come on dude. You can easily criticize a sermon without mocking people who believe in religion, those arent the same things. it's almost impossible for emergency to believe that you said sky fairy because of your respect for religion.

I don't respect religion though. I think in general those rules are harmful. I do respect... spirituality? The right to think a higher force or being exists.

This is why I rarely get involved in these discussions. I have no idea which words to use to make myself clear.

See my other comment above for why, but either way I've had people get really offended at whatever I use in the context of criticizing a lesson from the bible. Because that's what I'm doing here, right. I might as well make it clear that in this context my opinion about the end of the game (and the lesson from the sermon) isn't a positive one.

Well you're talking to an atheist so I'm not getting offended over you criticizing a sermon or the bible or whatever. I just think ~sky fairy~ is a bullshit term assholes use to insult theists. The context here doesn't really matter.

You're probably right about that. I'm not sure how better to balance wanting to insult a game (and a sermon) for being complete horseshit, and not wanting to insult people's right to put their faith in a higher power for personal comfort.

Because the problem I have here is with the message, not the practice.

OK, let me say this, as a Christian myself: You need to read the first part of Luke 12:10. Even Jesus is not offended by the term "sky fairy." Are we or are we not called to be like Jesus?

I hope nobody's pretending the characters in my fandoms are real. ...But this is the internet so somebody probably is pretending they're married to Sephiroth on the astral plane.

I take the same stance on that as I do on religion: whatever makes you happy.
