I follow someone on Tumblr who's very Catholic, but also a beautiful, eloquent writer whose short stories speak to me on multiple levels regardless (I'm a Satanist, fwiw).

She wrote a character piece about Lucifer and his relationships with the other angels over time, and noted in the tags that the piece was about him being small and stubborn and lonely and unable to admit any of that, which would help him into not being small and stubborn and lonely anymore.

Thing is, what I got out of it was pride in independence, an honor and a glory in telling someone with power over you to GTFO, to desperately want back what you gave away when you said you could not bear to live in this way - and knowing if you go back you will sink right into that hell again. So. Whoops.
