Argh, yes.

For example, Katelyn/Kaitlynn/etc. is not an old, traditional Irish name (they're probably thinking of Caitlin which was already Anglicized as Kathleen a long time ago....)

Writers do this too, and it never fails to pull me out of whatever I'm reading or watching. Like that show "Reign" where Mary's ladies-in-waiting are called Greer, Kenna, and Aylee - no those aren't Scottish names and while I can see why a show might not want to have like five characters named Mary, they could have picked some names that were realistic for the time and place.
