Who fucking gets to decide what's "unnecessary?"

You?

So by your standards poor people shouldn't be doing anything except working in minimum-wage jobs and when they go home instead of watching a TV they WASTED ALL THEIR MONEY ON OMFG they should just stare at the wall.

Do I have that right?

Your concept of poverty and mine are completely different (first word vs. third word pov, no surprise there), but hey, enjoy whatever you can afford.

I just hope you never advice someone in a bad financial situation to choose their enjoyment first, because that can make it worse.

You're ignoring the important question: Who fucking gets to decide what's necessary or unnecessary for someone who isn't you?

'Cuz it ain't you. It ain't me either, but it definitely ain't you or anyone else except the person who's making the decision. I'm sorry you lived in third world poverty and I'm well aware that my situation was better than most, but playing the first-world/third-world guilt game is bullshit especially if you're doing it to judge other people for what's important for making their lives a little better.

(ayrt
I was planning on not commenting anymore and in fact this is the last comment I'll leave because this topic hits too close to home and I don't see the point on hurting myself talking about it)

What is necessary is something that we can't agree, because while I think in surviving you think in... in what? Things that make you happy? That shows the difference between our situations and countries.

But still, spending spare money in whatever you want is not the same as spend bill/rent/groceries money into something else.

Buying something in installment you can afford is not the same as buying something in installment while not being able to meet ends even before that.

Please note the differences. Also, acknowledge that all situations are different instead of using blank statements to encourage people to do something that can (in the worse situation) hurt them.

I'll stop using blanket statements when you stop making blanket statements, cupcake.

"it was a luxury when my parents couldn't buy us winter coats"
"Poor people should never buy things to make their lives a little easier to deal with"

You're the ONLY one here making such blanket statements, troll.

I'd rather have walls to stare at, thanks.

It's not exactly rocket science that food, shelter, warmth are necessary, and that Game of Thrones DVD or Crunchyroll subscription? Probably not.

YOU DON'T GET TO MAKE THAT DECISION

(Anonymous) 2015-01-03 05:28 am (UTC)(link)
But I do have the right to judge the fuck out of someone who thinks a video game is more important to their family's welfare than food or rent.

And believe me, I do.

what if they're single and have no kids? (you seem to be assuming everyone is supporting other people besides just themselves)

(Anonymous) 2015-01-03 02:21 pm (UTC)(link)
You do realize this thread is an answer of the "parents not being able to buy winter coats" anon?

Please don't join DT in their generalization trolling, since no one here is saying that using spare money (whether they have someone to support or not) is bad.

I took that as just being an example, and had actually forgotten about that line since it was so far up. Anyway people have been talking about being judgy for poor people having luxuries period, the kid part wasn't brought up again until recently and pretty sure Dethtoll doesn't have any.
