I'ma bypass the whole list of reasons other people have given for possible slowdown, and focus on your unprovable premise: that "most" fs frequenters want ip logging permanently off.

How many is most? Do your have any evidence of this? What are your numbers for each side of the argument? Was this a double blind study?

That was my thought. From where I'm sitting - all alone! - most FS readers and commenters want IP logging on forever. I just checked, and all 100% of me agrees. Obvs a majority!
