Wow. You don't even know the first thing about me and yet you're making all sorts of assumptions as to what kind of life I lead and how much money I make and all this and all that. My situation is a lot worse than you think it is, but I don't owe you an explanation for anything and I am not going to give you one, because you fucking suck and we can never be friends because I don't hang out with sociopaths.

I am not even going to begin with most of your post because it is so insulting, blinkered, and self-absorbed. I am going to ignore it because it all stems from the central issue you have so politely laid out for me:

I think I have a right to say that I know what's better for the less fortunate when I spent most of my life BEING less fortunate.

This is qualified fucking bullshit. Aiight? The unbelievable temerity you have that you think just because you grew up miserable you get to decide how miserable other people are. "Oh, you bought your kid a toy to keep him entertained? What kind of shitty parent are you, that's money you could be putting towards something necessary! And I know what's necessary because I grew up poor and that gives me the right to dictate to other poor people what they're allowed to do!"

That's not a generalization. That is a description of the exact kind of shitty, selfish, and above-all BITTER attitude you and others have been displaying in this shithammer thread.

You're an egomaniacal piece of shit and I don't want to talk to you anymore.

I can't find a good way to dispute your point so I'm going to be an ableist piece of shit and accuse you of having mental disorders!

Also it's cure how the one thing you think you do have the capacity to dispute, is entirely based on what you've intentionally misread it to say instead of what was actually being said.

But hey, keep on telling poor people it's better to be homeless than bored. You can safely watch their misery explode from your middle class bubble!

the thing is, he's not wrong about your behaviour

(Anonymous) 2015-01-03 07:38 am (UTC)(link)
LOL you're actually going on anon to defend yourself

That was actually me, was logged out, my bad.

You just literally SAID you have the right to decide how complete strangers live their lives, then you get hostile when someone tells you no, you don't get to control people like that. That's pretty sociopathic.

da

but what if you're actually dethtoll in disguise?

How do I know you aren't? Accusing anyone of being somebody else on a mostly-anonymous forum is pointless.

Ayrt

Sorry, I was just joking around. I should have put /s in my last reply like I originally intended.

That's fair!

(Anonymous) 2015-01-03 07:50 am (UTC)(link)
I wasn't talking about controlling strangers. Perhaps I did not state my point correctly if that's how I came across. I think I was lacking clarity because I was very angry, and I'm sorry for letting that mess up my words.

What I am trying to communicate here is that it feels like dethtoll is being highly hypocritical, saying it;s wrong to try and help people by giving them useful advice and instead thinks that people should ruin their lives for the sake of fun. I am extremely glad no one gave me such awful advice and angry that he wants to do that to anyone else. I am saying that, as someone who's been in that situation, I feel that is absolutely the wrong thing to do and would absolutely advise against it to anyone else facing poverty because my experiences tell me it will do much more harm than good.

Following dethtoll's advice can literally ruin lives and it makes me angry that he thinks people who believe in taking care of themselves are classist for not wanting to be homeless.

But that isn't what he's saying at all. He's not giving advice to anyone. He's saying that nobody has the right to dictate to other people how they spend their money, and it isn't fair to judge people for buying (insert expensive-relative-to-example-poor-person) for themselves or their kids once in a while, and that the whole concept of judging poor people for the occasional indulgence (whether or not you're one of those poor people) is classist.

You're just reading what you want to read.

(Anonymous) 2015-01-03 12:57 pm (UTC)(link)
He...didn't give advice to anyone. The only person in this thread who's trying to give advice is you, and that's part of why you come across as judgmental.

You just keep thinking that. As if I'm the only one who could possibly disagree with you.

(Anonymous) 2015-01-03 08:34 am (UTC)(link)
I think you're the one deliberately misreading things here. No one is saying people shouldn't buy toys for their kids. The secret is talking about video games, which - guess what? ARE an expensive, unnecessary luxuries. I say this as someone who can't afford video games BECAUSE THEY'RE EXPENSIVE. Would I like to be able to play video games? Hell yes. Are they financially feasible for me right now? Hell no. So I opt for other forms of entertainment instead. Not having video games is hardly the end of the world, I promise.

(Anonymous) 2015-01-03 10:15 am (UTC)(link)
New games are expensive. You can get old games on the cheap, though, from pawn shops and stuff.

(Anonymous) 2015-01-03 10:33 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, but even used systems are still expensive. I know I can get games on the cheap, it's the systems that I can't afford. I don't have a spare $150+ to be able to drop on a system, let alone games for it. That's almost a third of my monthly rent right there.

(Anonymous) 2015-01-03 12:58 pm (UTC)(link)
You have a computer. Do you not like playing games on computer?

(Anonymous) 2015-01-03 02:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Do you even know if anon's computer can be used for gaming?

PS2 $40 (http://www.amazon.com/Playstation-2-Console-Black/dp/B0000C7GHG)
Wii $64 (http://www.amazon.com/Wii-Nintendo/dp/B0009VXBAQ)

TRULY A $150 COMMITMENT. And that's just from mainstream retailers. You can get a steal for games and consoles on Craigslist.
