It shouldn't bother you at all that the quarter of your country who isn't Christian might want to keep living their lives on the day of a religious festival that has fuck all to do with them. If it means so much to you, book the day off, say it's for religious observation, and stand your ground. That's what I have to do for my celebrations, and I get one whole hell of a lot less societal support for it because closed isn't and has never been the default.

Boohoo, things are closed for one whole day. I'm not Christian either but it doesn't bother me one bit that I can't go get Starbucks or go to a restaurant for a single day.

In other words, deal with it.

a lot of areligious people still celebrate Christmas - it's secular to them but it's still a family-centric holiday
