Not secret 1: While I basically agree with you for the most part, here's a Big Truth. Making a secret with light text on a light background? BURNS PEOPLE'S EYES.

Not secret 2: in b4 wank lol

13. You had me until the "there will never be true equality, just deal and be grateful you've got it as good as you do". Who are you to tell us we're not allowed to wish things were better in real life? That we should just sit down, shut up and take it because our being annoyed is pissing you off? I call misogynist. Or shit-stirring troll.

26. Sakura #2 looks hotter.

34. ...what the hell does this have to do with fandom? Also, TMI.

Though I do agree that if someone's gonna complain about women's rights, they should be rallying for something in the REAL WORLD, not some pointless fandom or entertainment thing.

Who says that people who complain about sexism and misogyny in fiction aren't also protesting real-world issues?

"Go do something REAL, like helping oppressed Muslim women!" is one of the most popular ways to shut down discussion of sexism in fiction. Oddly, the people who trot it out rarely themselves care much about the poor oppressed Muslim women. They just want to shut down discussion.

...hahaha, you caught me! I edited because I realized how retarded that sounded. Yeah, I know what you mean. Sometimes it IS true that fandom feminists only care about sexism in anime, but what you said is also true. Cases vary and all that stuff.

On feminist blogs, too. It's so fucking tired, and they never seem to realize they're not being original.

What makes you think we don't?

Also, sexism in media certainly does not help combat sexism in the real world. It may not be the cause of sexism in North America, but as a symptom is certainly SHOULD be condemned.

Well, the root of the problem is that too many people can't separate life from art. To quote MST3K, "it's just a show, you really should relax".

Still, I see your point. While I hate people who cry OMG SEXIST!! over every instance of a girl dying or needing help or cooking and cleaning or wearing a dress, or insist that women HAVE to be positive, quality role models or else they suck, there IS an abundance of 'dead girlfriend/wilting flower/she just needs a deep dicking to mellow her' and it does suck.

13. He's just pissy beacause the last time we wouldn't sit down, shut up, and take it, we gained the right to vote and own property. =D

[identity profile] sarajayechan.livejournal.com 2007-12-31 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, what's next, women are allowed to walk through the streets and not be raped? Women have the CHOICE of whether or not to pop out babies for The Man? GASP!!

lol your username made me think you were male at first

[identity profile] andy-longwood.livejournal.com 2007-12-31 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
Or worse yet, be actually listened to when they voice a sense of disempowerment based on a fictional representation of their gender. Because it's not like they have the brains to know when they're being insulted, or anything.

lawl, that happens every so often. It always makes me laugh.

[identity profile] sarajayechan.livejournal.com 2007-12-31 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
Seriously, I do the fandom thing to be entertained, I just shrug it off as 'well, it's fictional characters, not like the creator goes out and rapes a woman or two every night after work!!', but I'm the kind of person who likes her characters to be HUMAN, meaning they shouldn't have to be superchick in a kick-butt miniskirt shooting everything that moves to be any good. As long as the creator portrays them as a human being, I don't care whether they stab bad guys or bake cookies.

On the other hand, we have Lifetime Syndrome, where this is 'television for women' yet we have all these movies where women are Eternal Victims who only find their Inner Strength after being beaten senseless with the Trauma Stick, and that makes me extremely uncomfortable. Forget anime females needing to be rescued, if fandom feminists wanna rally against something they need to take out Lifetime Original Movies first. >:/

I agree with your post, but...

...I'm horribly sorry, the main thing I took away from it was "Oh man I could really go for some fresh-baked cookies right now."

And now I feel awful XD;

[identity profile] sarajayechan.livejournal.com 2007-12-31 06:08 pm (UTC)(link)
XD It's okay.
