*nods* A bit irrelevant (though it is still problematic when women do go out of their way to make males' lives miserable), but several other comments had said that they were few and far between (I'm not sure if it's just my social location, but I run into a good deal of them, perhaps a university thing?), so I thought that was what you were reinforcing.

At any rate (since I don't want to get into a whole thing either, but it seems I did ^^') yeah. And thanks.

See, I am completely fascinated by the study of the -isms, so I've persued it at the university level. I'm by no means an expert on things like sexism, racism, homophobia, classism, etc, because seriously, it's just a few classes and essays and textbooks and that does not make me all that knowledgeable (I SWEAR I AM GOING SOMEWHERE WITH THIS I am not trying to be pretentious gsdhfgj sorry). But one of the things that the professors hammer into our heads every class is that the most widely used academic definitions of oppression concern themselves with oppression on an institutional and cultural level, not on a person-by-person basis (so using this definition, "reverse-racism/sexism/classism/whatever" doesn't exist, because oppressed minorities don't have the institutional power to back up their prejudice, whereas a majority person does). This is the definition I am most familiar with. This is not a definition that most people have, but I think it's where a lot of arguments against you are coming from.

Basically what all that nonsense up there means is that I don't want to argue with you because I don't think you accept this definition, or aren't that familiar with it...? I don't mean that as a bad thing, but we're going to see things incredibly differently because of it, making it virtually inpossible to reach a consensus or convince each other of our arguments.

SO TO CONCLUDE (s-sorry for this entire comment btw) I don't see a point in me arguing this with you. I'm only arguing with skippy up there because she is entertaining.

Oh, I've heard this definition, and it was indeed pounded into my head by the sociology professor I mentioned up there ↑ but I don't think I've got the ground to stand on and engage you in a debate over it because it was just a 101 class. Not to belittle it, but I just probably couldn't follow it, really, and I'm not afraid to admit that.

I don't particularly agree with the thing with "reverse-racism/sexism/etc." but that's just because I'm of the belief that two wrongs =/= a right. I think that both sides are being despicable and wish that things could be resolved... more peacefully, I suppose? Which is idealistic, I know, but I suppose it doesn't keep me from wishing.

However, all of this is a good bit of the reason that I usually don't get involved in discussions of this sort of issues -- especially not over the internet where anonymous can just spam you with "repostrepostrepostrepostrepostrepost" ad infinitum. But anyway, agree to disagree, no hard feelings? ^^'

Oh yeah, I'm not going to defend a woman making obviously prejudiced statements about all men, or a gay person making obviously prejudiced statements about all straights, because that's all sorts of wrong and HATE IS BAD NO MATTER WHAT OKAY. I think we can ALL agree on that XD

But yes, we obviously disagree, and that's totally cool. As long as we both understand where the other is coming from, right?

And the little girl in me just yells at this point "CAN'T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG ;_;" but I suppose that goes back to my original point of both sides (especially the side doing the oppressing) needing understanding of where the other side is coming from. One of those times when I would be in full favor of a Point of View gun. Marvelous-sounding invention, if you ask me.

Indeed. I respect your point and it sounds valid to me. (:
