Leaving aside the tumblr-hate, I do understand. Tumblr is made for pictures and gifs, but it's not a platform for discusion. I remember back in the day when lj was still active I used to read up all the comments and really interesting conversations in the comments section. With tumblr you can't do that. You can't join a conversation, you just reblog the information (which makes sense, since that's what the platform is about), but it definitely wasn't made with fandom and discussion in mind.
