Is it primarily out-of-universe, or does it do in-universe as well? I'd love to catalogue the buildup of fanon in some fandoms. (Two words: bat ponies.)

Both are okay! You can definitely talk about the buildup of fanon. (Friendship is Magic, I presume?)

Yeah. I'm surprised there's so little content for that fandom, actually--I figured it would have more articles.

Color me surprised there isn't more material for Friendship is Magic as well. I'd have thought for sure it'd have a pretty robust article, given it's (or was) one of the biggest non-live action fandoms in the last 2-3 years.

Actually, I was more surprised that it was so non-judgmental. I was expecting an article about the Horrors of Bronyism.
