Have you ever watched a show (cartoon, anime, whatever) from your childhood and you realize you still have a crush on a character who is now way younger than you?

Because that happened to me recently and I feel terrible! :)

Not really. I kinda had the opposite problem, in that I have apparently always been attracted to older people, which showed early on in my choice of crushes. It's a bit uneasy looking back and realising the kind of age gaps little!me was cheerfully and innocently contemplating.

It's the faces. I tend to be attracted to the kind of craggy, interesting faces that usually only come with age. I figure at around 60 or so I'll finally catch up to my crushes.

More than one female friend has reported watching The Neverending Story as an adult and thinking "Well, I guess I'm a pedophile now."

For me, it's Jailbait Natalie Portman in The Professional. You can see the potential for the gorgeous, accomplished, hugely talented woman she's since become, so watching it, I can't quite separate my modest crush on Adult Natalie Portman from the Jailbait Natalie Portman I'm looking at, and I give myself the creeps.

Years ago when I was still a big SPN fan I realized that Jared was Dean in Gilmore Girls and that made things very awkward for me. Even when I went back to watch the show I couldn't stop thinking how adorable he was. And feeling like a dirty old woman...

This isn't even from my childhood, but holy crap do I find Dylan O'Brien attractive and feel odd about it. At least he isn't actually a teen, but since he plays one it makes me feel a bit naughty. (I feel less bad about Crystal Reed because she's actually older than me, even though she doesn't look her age.)

Gundam Wing. I was in the fandom ten years ago, when I was fifteen, and I was all about the slash and the porn. Now you couldn't pay me to join that fandom. I don't even know if I dare watch the series again!

I rewatch it from to time. Some of the story I finally get and I found a new respect for Treize, Lady Une, and Sally Po. AND I still have a huge crush on Heero.

Irvine Kinneas from Final Fantasy 8. Had a bit of a crush on him when I was a young teenager, but hey, he was 17, so it was okay at the time.

I'm now about 11 years older than he is (according to the game), so revisiting FF8 a while back and realizing I still liked Irvine in a crush-ish short of way was kind of uncomfortable. :T

I've done that and worse: I'll watch something new and be able to tell what character I would've had a crush on when I was younger, and sometimes that causes me to get a crush on them now. That only happens if it's animated, though. So far. At least.

Jake Sisko. I was the same age as the character when the show originally aired and I had a HUGE mad crush on him. Fast forward to 2011, I'm rewatching DS9 from the beginning with some people I just met, and Jake shows up on screen. First thing I say? "Yep, still hot." Awkward.

this happens all the time. but it's not like a real crush, i guess? like, i have the same sort of stirring that crushes cause, but it never goes beyond that. i don't imagine myself with them or anything, i don't picture them sexually. it's more just an acknowledgement that if i were their age i would hit it (or, you know, hold hands with it).
