I love rping, but only on private IM with people I know. I don't see the appeal of rp in public on tumblr or other forums, especially with people I don't know. I'd feel self-conscious about that. For me the appeal of rp is not having to worry about good writing, but just enjoying the characters and the ships and the scenarios my rp partner and I put the characters in. If I did that in public? I'd start angsting so much about whether this line is well written and whether that line was perfectly in character or not, and then I might as well sit down and write fic. Basically rp is, for me, the low pressure, low effort version of fic writing, with extra input from someone else. It's a more elaborate way of sharing ideas by "playing them out" rather than just talking theoretically about them.
