The thing that bothers me is also the fact that having a spouse and kids is sold as the secret to happiness. There are just as many instances in real life where making a family couldn't save a dying relationship or stop someone from being unhappy, and they were only unhappier with the additional responsibility of taking care of small children. I don't like the fact that settling down is presented as the only solution, particularly if it's for a female character, seeing as I'm a woman who's never felt a burning desire to marry a man or become a mother.

I feel you nonnie. I've got absolutely no interest in having kids, getting married? Maybe, in the far future but it's not something that I consider to be key to my happiness. If it happens it happens, and if not, well okay then.

And I do get annoyed by how often it's touted in the media and in society at large that 'having a family' is supposed to be my ultimate goal. What because I can't be happy on my own? Or that two people can't be a family, it has to have kids to count, which is also BS.

Thing, is, doing it the other way has a bit of a fridge horror. In the "It's a wonderful life" reality hop types, this means the protagonist effectively kills their children if they stay there. Sure, nobody else remembers they exist, but they existed yesterday and now they don't and that is because of them. That story's gonna have problems if people start thinking about that.

(In reverse, how is it I'm the only one creeped the fuck out by the family man for this reason? Angel, you just made that man's kids DIE. Somehow Spiderman post House of M is the only person doing this troupe right)
