Re: why is body shaming of some groups okay but not others

But the non-ideal man is a fucking joke. Like, literally. They are always the buffoon husband who fucks everything up.

Now who are the ideal men in media? Hot, buff guys. Chris Evans, Ryan Reynolds, Idris Elba, Matthew McConaughey, basically everyone that shows up on google image search for "sexiest men." Oddly enough, Jack Black and Kevin James are not on that list.

and guys are the ones who own those movie companies, and guys are the ones running those studios, and guys are the producers, the directors, etc...

as a guy who grew up around those images I get how they might be harmful, but when you start your post about men's issues with defensive garbage like "WHEN WILL PEOPLE UNDERSTAND THIS HURTS MEN TOOOOO!" it becomes a joke. why not just write a post about harmful body images? why does it have to start out as a defensive attack on similar posts made by women, or with the implication that people never care about men's issues? why can't it be an informational article about male anorexia? or teens who feel like they have to body-build themselves into harm? the original poster knew exactly the angle they were vying for, so I don't feel sorry for their post being hijacked.

and in addition, you're wrong about the schluby guy being a joke all the time. oftentimes, even if we're not talking the "sexiest" man, he'll get the girl anyway because ultimately his looks don't matter. you almost never see that the other way around. in male roles, even ugly males, looks are secondary to their accomplishments.
