I definitely read it as being more serious. "So jealous I could spit"? Really?

All the people who are saying it's tongue-in-cheek actually made me feel better because I hope they are right. I'm not always good at picking that stuff up in text.

I actually read that part as being jealous of the popularity of the daughter's fandom (and that they get more active exchanges?) rather than of the daughter herself.

I could be wrong though.

Read pretty tongue-in-cheek to me. Unless you start epically trolling her fandom, or posting creepy "I'm so-and-so's Mom!" comments on all the smutfic or something, I think you're OK.

People admit to petty jealousies and wistfulness about other fandoms/pairings being more popular here all the time; I don't think it becomes OMG evil because it happens to be your daughter's fandom, and I wouldn't assume it means you're taking it out on her IRL or anything.
