I beg of you, if you do, throw some sort of border onto the text so it'll show up regardless of background colour? Pleasethankyou?

Yeah, because a transparent background will just look white on screen Unless you're talking about using that grey and white checkered "background" in your secret?. Either way, not very good for text, white especially.
