it really concerns me that a few sj circles want their mainstream entertainment to diverse, but seem to have little interest in supporting disadvantaged creators.

Do you mean people who do web series and (non-big name) indie films and stuff? If so, that's actually a really good point.

Yes to this. And even the same to mainstream Hollywood. Because everyone talks about the need for diversity and how they would watch those diverse shows. But in reality, you have a diverse show like Sleepy Hollow that is stage diving in ratings. Or Brooklyn 99 that isn't so hot either. Where are the fans that swear that they would watch these shows?

*sniff* I'm still watching Sleepy Hollow. (Although the nosedive in ratings happened *after* the cast became less diverse, which may be a hopeful thing...)

If it makes you feel any better, Grimm is pretty diverse and doing great.

The handful of fans that comprise "a few SJ circles" aren't really enough to keep an already-tanking show on the air...

Yes and also having the mainstream stuff being directed by a minority. Like, I think that push for entertainment to have diverse casts is good and don't have any issue with cis white males or whatever writing [insert minority here], but it feels pretty superficial to have diverse casts without also having diverse creators.

*eagerly puts up his little table and a for sale sign* :B

No but really, I ranted on this a couple days back. I make comics about mental health shit and write stories about crazy disabled people and queers. I'm also currently making a horror computer game with a friend involving choosing between morality and what looks like health. I'm a year out of homelessness at this point *confetti and noisemakers* but am still poor and disabled.

I'm just saying guys, I have a lot of work up for free, so you can see what you like first, but if you ever wanted to throw money at someone... :D?

this is so true tho, and they're so much talk. they'll complain about whitewashing but have no problem strolling to the theater to watch the latest completely lily-white cast of Generic Superhero Movie # 12.
