But sometimes people will then say "character A is gay" instead of "character A is bisexual"

And in some cases people in relationships do check out other people, or talk about their tastes, or some such.

Definitely. My hubby's bi, and I actually enjoy him finding women attractive. If he suddenly stopped, I'd be deeply concerned for his well-being! (Also, I rarely find people attractive, but I often enjoy their body in an artistic 'I MUST DRAW YOUR KNEES' way.)

So we can totally bond over our appreciation for women, even if it's in totally different ways.

I'm a straight gal, and honestly, if I ended up dating or marrying a bi guy, I think I'd have a lot of fun scoping out dudes with him. Even though I don't usually feel super attracted to people I don't know, I still have "ah, he's cute!" moments. :P
