Thanks for this. Between this and another board I'm on where the game for THE LAST FUCKING YEAR has been to make up stupid versions of Cumberbatch's name, I'm sick to death of people being assholes about the guy. I like him as an actor, he seems a reasonably good guy, and the haters and mockers are just fucking tiresome.

I'm not even a huge fan of the guy, but the constant picking at him seems to be making me like him better!

People are always going to bag on people who are extremely talented and successful. I'm sure cumberbun doesn't mind, he doesn't strike me as somebody who has a fragile sense of self-worth.

no. it's because he's super popular right now and constantly shoved into your face by fangirls in fandom spaces. also, he's funny looking so that doesn't help make it easier to ignore.

i've managed to mostly avoid him and i'm in spaces where it's likely; you need to prune your spaces better

making up random variations on the name is all good fun IMO.

"Cumberbitch" isn't really. It's not supposed to fit into the fun game, it's supposed to be mean.

It's all good fun, in an eight-year-old way, for maybe six months. At this point I can't go to that other board and talk about "The Imitation Game" because I know the thread will get derailed by increasingly lame jokes about his name. Eight-year-olds would have realized the joke is played out by now.

Ok. Some people like jokes and some people don't tire of them as easily as others. This honestly kind of sounds like a case of "gah, stop having fun" to me.

Granted, I can see how it would be annoying if people derail conversations you start about other things even if you ask them not to. :/

I'm glad you liked it, I wasn't sure if I should reply, tbh. I mean, the anti-CB people don't anoy me. I lol every time at "BC is ugly" threds. Why him? Is it the name? :D

He does seem like a nice guy! He's so funny. And he comes to work when he doesn't have to because he's nice and he promised to help out. (it was in some interview)
