even fanfic couldn't make retail compelling or cutesy

DA

Challenge accepted. I can't promise cutesy, but I'll aim straight for compelling.

I dunno, I love my copy of Tales from the SecureMarket.

But I'm a real sucker for slice-of-life stuff crossed with spec fic. Stories about a coffeeshop? Boring. Stories about the coffeeshop in every fanfic, where there are Bromance Anonymous meetings and gods come in to trash the place every Thursday? GIVE IT TO ME.

hey, it could be a nice way for people who work retail to put a fun spin on it.

And it's more about the character interactions (to me) than anything else. I'm not looking for "John saw that they were running low on decaf, so he started another pot" or "Sarah spent the next half an hour re-hanging shirts from the fitting room". I'm looking for stuff like "John accidentally tipped over the decaf pot and Ralph slipped and fell on his ass, and they both laughed" or "Laura was white-faced after dealing with a particularly abrasive customer, and Sarah gave her a pep talk in the break room over a bag of Cheetos"...better-written than that, of course, but I really like those slice-of-life bonding experiences.
