I did too. But then by the end of it I only really cared for Kanaki, and he got the short end of the stick in the series.

Trufax: I actually had to look up Kaneki to remember who that was. Which is pretty sad when you're talking about the main character. I guess this manga didn't leave much impression on me beyond "life sucks and everyone dies pointlessly."

I did really like the manga until the end. II know there is a sequel but I can't bring myself to read it yet. I don't trust the mangaka after that.

Ugh, this series... I was really into it the first few volumes when it was about Kaneki trying to cope with his new existence, but then it had to explode into typical shonen power battles. It did things well when it focused on the day-to-day stuff.

But yeah, similar thoughts. In a lot of ways, the CCG guys didn't really have a choice. However, I also kept thinking the entire time how it would be really easy for them to survive if they just got a coroner or mortician as a friend who could supply them bodies. Maybe it wouldn't work quite as well in Japan where families expect to get ashes and bones, but if they moved somewhere else...

See, I found Kaneki annoying then. His whole "Oh poor me, I'm half human half ghoul" bit was grating. I didn't like when he went over 9000 ghoul, but the points where he was working for a purpose were better for.

I think the biggest issue were the jerk ghouls; binge eaters like Rize, Agori Tree, Restaurant Ghouls, and the Clowns. Those were the people fucking shit up and drawing the CCG's attention. Everyday ghouls would eat sparingly or go through Anteiku, who got meat from people who committed suicide.

It did things well when it focused on the day-to-day stuff.

I know I'm waaay late on this, but: OH DEAR GOD YES. I'd've LOVED TG if it was essentially a "day in the life" show about a guy having to learn to live as a ghoul. I do not give two shits about the Aogiri or the CCG or the, "it's all a conspiracy to make human-ghoul hybrids and Kaneki was a test subject" thing or any of that. I just wanna see Kaneki working at Anteiku and hanging out with Hide and that sort of thing...

well, fictional genocide of Dangerous People is not comparable to real genocide. I always think it's fucked up that there are so many examples of this in fiction where it's almost sensible. no ethnic group which was the target of genocide were human eating monsters. no ethnic group came ever close to deserving it.

most western ppl are so far removed from the real thing that they relate to it more through X-Men and vampires.

call it extinction. compare it to trying to get rid of smallpox.
