Nope. You can only like perfect characters... who end up being called "Mary Sue/Stu" anyway.

Seriously, I'm tired of this. Yes, he's sort of an asshole, but I still like him. The horror.

Yes we did, and IDC, I love him. I honestly didn't know what to expect from Solas (and didn't have any excitement for him), but he surprised me more than anyone. (Which isn't to say I love him more than everyone else, but that I was pleasantly surprised by him in a way I wasn't by most the others. He and my Inquisitor were bff's and I loved having him around. He's quite an interesting guy. Plus...dat voice.)

So he's got a nice voice? I haven't played the game yet.

Voices are important in video games. I was prepared to hate Fenris until he opened his mouth. I still kinda hate his stupid mage-hating rhetorics but I romanced him because of his voice. I do prefer Anders though.

I think he has a lovely voice because of his accent. He's voiced by a Welsh actor named Gareth David Lloyd. IIRC he's known for Torchwood, but I've never seen it.

I have seen Torchwood and was at least halfway through the game before I realized Solas was played by Gareth David Lloyd. (And that was only because someone else mentioned it.) I don't know if he sounds a tad different as Solas, or if I just didn't recognize him.

Yup! I was shocked when I realized that, but it's neat. Occasionally I'll think about it and go, "Right, right, Ianto" and imagine the actor speaking Solas' lines and be terribly amused.

It took me a long time to figure out why I recognized the name. But it's been so long since I watched Torchwood that I don't really remember what Ianto's voice sounds like!

Interesting how they keep getting actors from the same TV shows to do voices for the BioWare games. First Star Trek, now Torchwood.

Voices are so hit and miss that I can say "Yea, his voice is delicious" and you might hear it and go, "What the fuckkkkkkkkkk", so to me his voice is gorgeous. I love the accent; I could listen to him talk all day.

(Fenris had a nice voice, too. So did Anders. The voice acting in DA is top-notch in general though, and I can see why people would be swayed by the VA's.)

Yeah, I get that. Usually I love British accents but I thought Merrill's accent just sounded weird. I guess it depends.

(I think the voice acting was better in DA II than in Origins. Except for Zevran who was just so amusing and cute, and Morrigan who was perfect. I was kinda disappointed for Anders because I loved his voice actor in Awakening.)

Yup, see, I really liked Merrill's VA; found it cute. Wasn't a massive fan of her character (I just didn't use her enough to grow that attached to her), but she has her moments.

(I can't even pick, tbh. I loved Alistair, and Zevran, and thought Leliana's voice was delightful, and of course Morrigan was perfect but Shale and Sten were super amazing too and Wynne was such a good mom and idk, I just love the Origins cast, but I'm pretty fond of DA2's cast too. IMO all the Dragon Age games have some strong voice work, but everyone has their favorites so I can't fault you for that.)

I adore his character, but I'm starting to think he has cast a spell on fandom. I see more people blaming Hawke for Corypheus when it's Solas who gave Corypheus the orb in the first place- Solas has so much blood on his hands and will no doubt screw things up some more and all people care about is his romance arc.

I think he's an interesting character and I can sort of see why fandom would be into him. I just found him kind of annoying in all my play throughs, though. He gets so angry at the thought of anyone besides himself having a chance to atone, or *gasp* changing that it just got old for me.

I like him, but I stepped away from his fan thread because the fans there are very, very, very intense about it and read his romance as this fairytale thing they can't quit. Nothing wrong with it - just not my cup at all.

I can't help liking the romance and the character a little less after seeing the fan interpretation, to be honest.

You're not the only one. I went into the game excited about the romance and came out underwhelmed by it, but not by him. The thread is not for anyone who doesn't obsess over how much he loves Lavellan. I kind of see it as Ground Zero for all the Little Red Riding Hood/"Then the wolf fell in love with the halla" bullshit that plagues interpretations of both characters.

From how my friends talked about him, I was expecting him to be a lot more compelling than he was. I found him mostly inoffensive, but underwhelming. Then again, I found the game as a whole to be terribly underwhelming.

Yeah, I have to admit I'm getting swept up in things when it comes to Solas, and I haven't even played his romance yet (which is unusual for me, because I typically don't really get into a ship in DA until I have experienced it firsthand).

He's not my favourite DA:I character but he is definitely a super interesting one.

I haven't played the game yet (hardware issues). I find it hard to even want to try playing his romance because I am totally un-attracted to his looks. I can only hope he makes a decent companion when I do play, but I already have my first three play-throughs slated for types he won't date - human, qunari, or male.

My friend honestly said she found no one of the characters that special or even attractive but decided to give a chance for Solas because for her he is the most intriguing as a character arc.
For what I can say, different strokes for different folks. Not everything has to go down by the book.
