Gamer culture seems to demand an almost fanatical devotion to the hobby to prove that you're a True Gamer (however worthwhile that title is). Particularly if you're a woman.

You're talking as if gamer culture is something worth preserving. If the 'gaters are any indication of it-- no, no it is not.

Given that hobbies will inevitably form cultures, I wish we could work to change gamer culture, honestly. There are things I like about it, or at least the parts of it I've encountered, that I think are worth preserving. But there are also awful parts that should be cut out.
