That'd be because you are in fact a horrible fucking human being. There's been a massive condemnation against the attacks from the Muslim community and you just don't feel like seeing it. Go read the #NotInMyName tag on Twitter for just a drop in the bucket of the outcry.

OP really isn't a horrible human being. They were naturally thinking about an issue that effects us all, considering a side of it that hasn't been addressed much in mainstream media.

And citing twitter as a resource is ridiculous. What context does the use of a hashtag on a site with a broad but still limited demographic actually give you?

Because it's actual people using their actual voices to spread the message of peace and condemnation of violence. There's nothing taken out of context for a heavily-edited media article, it's just people, speaking. That's more real to me than mainstream media silence.

No, I wouldn't say they're a horrible human being, but they are very uninformed and that doesn't help them at all. I haven't made a point to search for examples of Muslims standing up against the recent terrorist acts, but I've seen plenty of examples in the media I consume. They've found me, so to speak.

OP should probably examine their news sources, selectively widen their intake of media and realize that just because the media you're watching isn't showing you something, that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Your media is choosing what to show you, and that's a bias in itself. As long as you understand what's happening, you won't be fooled into thinking that what you see on TV is an accurate representation of the world as a whole.

That's certainly been my experience re: seeing plenty of examples in the media I consume (mostly British media). Not only via news media sources, but I've seen Muslims commenting on the Sydney hostage incident on general entertainment shows, and Muslim callers into talk radio sobbing over the murders of aid workers, all of them condemning these horrifying actions.

Maybe OP's location is informing (or not, as the case may be) their perceptions.

OP - Interestingly, most of my sources have been online, and I've only seen one Muslim (until I saw some things people linked) say anything.

And now I see other people have been asking the same question, except they generally mean, "why don't Muslims just admit they're terrorists?" Which I know is bullshit.

AYRT

It might be helpful to cite your sources in that case. Like another anon said elsewhere in this thread, it can be difficult to tell whether you've stumbled onto a legitimate news site or a site with a definite bias (although that's not to say some news sites don't have a bias too, because hooo boy some of them do -- and not everyone realizes that, either). That's why I don't really rely on online sources for news in the first place, or at the very least make certain I have a very broad cross-section of opinion.

And also to just broaden your consumption of media where possible. Seek out media that's targeted at different people, seek out real people's voices. Don't form opinions based on one avenue stream of information.
