I just learned it's ableist to refer to Cole from Dragon Age as your son. I don't understand this at all. The person who said Cole was their son was not being serious, and even if they were, that...isn't ableist.

I'm sorry, because I can't actually explain. There is no context other than this person saying it's ableist and getting upset at people who say anything else.

It's likely because the character in question is heavily coded as autistic (he's even depicted as stimming in cutscenes), and some (autistic) people react negatively to autistic people or autistic-coded characters being infantilized. It's still a bit silly, because calling a character your son has nothing to do with infantilizing them, but there you are.

Damn, that's super weird, because even if I'm 70 and I had a male child at 20 I still have a son, but there ain't no way he's an infant.

The reason this accusation is fucking ridiculous is that the person who created Cole literally said "he has the mind of a child" and how can you artificially infantilize a child?

Was the son comment in the game? (I'm trying to remember if I got a conversation like that. Varric calls him kid, I think Bull does too, so was it a tumblr user that called him son?) I find that cute.

I have seriously been playing a different Final Fantasy series than other people, because that's not especially over the top for ugliness or revealingness (the two complaints I've seen about the outfit) to my mind, relative to the other 6th and 7th gen games in the series....

Tumblr must be on permanent apeshit mode if that's the case. Oh, wait...

I hate this costume just as much as I hate every other "would not provide protection in any way" kind of armour. But it's Final Fantasy. The game series where both male and female characters have a track record of having shit stupid and impractical armour. So I don't know what the fuss is about. (Have they looked at FFXII? Almost every single armour, even the ones that look at first glance like they might be okay, leave the most vulnerable points completely bare.)

Posting to this thread about people on tumblr who think otherkin are an oppressed minority would be interesting and welcome, but instead you've chosen to toss the topic out the window due to it not adequately representing an entire population. But, see, none of us can adequately represent an entire population and it's rarely what any of us are doing.

There's a post that's been popular for a long time that explains what a trigger is by using gifs of Calhoun from Wreck-It Ralph reacting to the phrase "dynamite gal" (if you haven't seen the movie, it gives her traumatic flashbacks that she reacts to like she's re-living them). It always seemed like the post was considered a good, concise way to explain a trigger to someone who's new to the concept and maybe doesn't fully get it.

But now, according to a new post, it's an "anti-SJW" post. What.

Is there an actual statement of reasoning behind it, or is it just one lone person's random feelings on it?

Because I have actual PTSD and I have opinions that would probably get me slapped with the SJW label, and I don't see how the connection would even possibly work.

The only thing I can think of is that that poster saw the post as "anti-SJW" because they misinterpreted it as the OP saying that if your trigger doesn't cause you to have traumatic flashbacks like Calhoun, it really isn't a trigger.

It's supposed to be disrespectful to refer to him as your BABY, or as a puppy, or other infantile terms.

I don't hold with the idea, but the official line is that you shouldn't infantalise neuroatypical people.
