I read all your replies and I noticed you never say 'for me', 'my opinion', ' it comes across like that way to me', you seem to implicitly take for granted that because you see it that way, everyone does and the writers failed getting their point come across to everyone. But they didn't, right?
This could be the source of your conflict with other fans. I can imagine you are one of those people who go to other fans to lecturize them about what, according to you, is the real story only to complain when they get tired of your ranting and remind you that your interpretation is not canon after all and thus you can't expect everyone to have the same interpretation you have.

AYRT--I'm not the OP, and have only responded once in this thread, to tell the OP not to worry about their "unoriginal" secret. Remember, each anon could be a different person!

AYRT--and now, having reread my comment which included "selling *me* on the original pairing," I think maybe you weren't actually speaking to me at all. Sorry!

OP here

I say "to me" and "in my opinion" because I recognize that our perspectives on works are always subjective because they're affected by our life experiences. I have said, again and again, that if something doesn't work for me, that that doesn't mean other people have to agree with me. In fact, I specifically say "for me" and "in my opinion" to make it clear that I'm not generalizing my opinion to the audience and I RECOGNIZE the fact that other people may have different opinions (including, obviously, the author).

I'm not asking that other fans see what I see or ship what I ship. But if someone tells me you MUST admit that Character B loves Character A because that's what the author intended I'm going to say "no." It might work for someone else, but if I see Character B treating Character A like crap and not caring about A, then I'm not going to believe it. If you do, that is fine. But I do not. And when people insist that *I* MUST then I will push back.

I never said that my interpretation is canon. Obviously, it is not.
