I do this too. It helps that I live in a small town in Iowa, but really, there are terrible people everywhere.

I try not to be ignorant or stupid about it, but most days I simply refuse to let intimidation prevent me from life. I WILL walk between the bus stop and my friend's house by myself, thankyouverymuch.

I walk to and from work (sometimes at 5:30am and sometimes as late as 8:30pm) and it's never occurred to me to even register that I'm 'walking after dark' except during winter but that's because then all I'm thinking is, "motherfucker I need sunlight it's cooooooold".
