I agree depending on the topic, like I always roll my eyes at people in fandom who take other people's opinions WAY too seriously and start attacking. I don't think fictional characters should give anyone the right to yell at a real person.

Yeah. That's more what I was going for. Oh NO! Someone insulted your favorite character or pairing. How horrible! You can just…ignore it. Duh. And some people will also complain about how people keep "tagging their hate" but honestly? It's still easy as hell to ignore.

I don't know…I've held some SUPER unpopular opinions in, say, Star Wars for example (I prefer the prequels and Anakin is my favorite character). And while I love a good back and forth debate, I've never felt the need to shout down anyone who disagreed with me (despite well over a decade of hate).

So when I see people get so bent out of shape about differing opinions, it really just reads as pathetic insecurity to me.

I can squee about Star Wars and Anakin's characterization all day long and someone else not liking it isn't going to change that, you know?

What I hate is when people terrorise a real, flesh-and-blood person in defence of a fictional character. "That's a real person you're hurting!"
