The theatrical release didn't have Bombur falling into the river or the way the Dwarves were introduced to Beorn, though these are in the EE.

The movies didn't have Thorin saying "we were starving". It didn't have the Elf party. It didn't have the Dwarves being attacked on the side of the mountain by Smaug. It didn't have Bilbo giving Thranduil pearls. It didn't have Kili and Fili dying while trying to save Thorin. It didn't have Dain giving Bard the emeralds of Girion. And a bunch of other stuff.

I think in a normal adaptation, it might be unreasonable to think all of this is going to get in. But the fact that so much of it is not and there's so much fanfiction in the movies instead is very disappointing. My feeling is that you can have your fanfiction if you've got all the stuff from the books and that's not enough. They didn't do that here.
