I'll also assume they care more about appearing smart and superior rather than actually being smart.

They clearly aren't interested in opening discussions and potentially affecting change with the way people think in any meaningful way. Otherwise why send people away to potentially unreliable and misinformed sources ("I'm not here to educate you, go Google it."), when they supposedly know and care so much about the subject themselves? Aren't they themselves the very best source of the information they want people to find?

If anyone came to me asking about e.g the issues surrounding the various ways I'm a non-privileged person then I'd jump at the chance to share my experience in the hope that actually getting a real person's perspective on the issue would be educational in and of itself. I sure as hell wouldn't hoard it to myself and dismiss someone away to get misinformed by the internet. Or worse, by Tumblr.
