What about the Janitor from Scrubs? Or Frazz, from the comic strip Frazz?

I love Frazz.

Janitor's smart, but he's also crazy and kind of evil. Or at least Chaotic Neutral. Don't know about Frazz.

(Anonymous) 2015-01-14 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
Eh, Frazz is okay but he's sometimes a judgmental twit and the strip never calls him out for it. Woe betide any kid at that school who dares to be fat.

Boothby in Star Trek: Next Generation.

I think "super wise janitor" is also a pretty common portrayal. There's also the Almighty Janitor trope: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/AlmightyJanitor

And then there's things like this: http://vimeo.com/channels/keypeele/39116336

But he's a Frey.

So because the majority of people you know are kind (which is great) it means no one can ever portray a custodian as mean? I mean, Hagrid is also a custodian in a way and he's one of the jolliest characters in the series.

(Anonymous) 2015-01-14 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
Seriously. And JKR is also a pretty staunch champion for the "blue collar man" if you will, so I highly doubt she had any bad messages there.

Well, unless they're portrayed like this

Sunset Overdrive might also count for something.

Omg thank you for posting that. Poor forgotten Roger. Even ol' Larry has gotten an offical 'remake', but Roger languishes on (he did get a remake of Space Quest 2 but it was a fangame).

(Anonymous) 2015-01-14 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
That's actually the only portrayal I've ever seen. And I always thought he was supposed to be just as much administrative as janitorial - kept detention records and so forth.

Besides, you have Hagrid who was the groundskeeper (until becoming a teacher - and even then, he still had groundskeeper duties), and he was portrayed sympathetically.

I was gonna suggest Charlie from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, but now that I think about it, he's an asshole janitor, too.

(Anonymous) 2015-01-14 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
Gordy from neds survival guide was pretty cool

Janitors can only ever be supercrusty evil people or Magical Negro type secret wisdom types. Probably 'cause Hollywood is full of classism. It's a massive frustration.

Text: Some of the nicest people I’ve ever met did custodial work for a living. It pisses me off that they’re always portrayed like this.

Might I recommend the comic Grease Monkey? The janitor is a freakin' master of the local spaceship, almost precognitive in his ability to avoid people he doesn't want to see, and knows everything about everyone. He also has a pet hamster and perfect teeth.

He's also a gorilla, but half the cast in Grease Monkey are gorillas. Seriously, an awesome, underrated comic.

Real talk. I don't think I've ever met a janitor who wasn't a really lovely person.

(Anonymous) 2015-01-14 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
That makes a lot of sense. It's so classist and gross.

(Anonymous) 2015-01-16 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
I always liked the janitor in Breakfast Club.

(Anonymous) 2015-01-17 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
Well, hey, there's Stanley Spadowski from UHF and God from Bruce Almighty. They were both pretty darn cool.
